Are you and your children looking for Santa this year? We hear that he’s coming to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center’s outdoor Christmas party on December 13th. This free event sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce (1 PM to 7 PM) includes many fun things to see, do, and receive for kids of all ages-carol singing, holiday music, festivities, and food, too. Santa is due to arrive around 6 PM with the tree-lighting ceremony. Come one, come all!

The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was held in the 1920’s, thanks to some Macy’s employees, first generation immigrants, who wanted to celebrate their new American heritage and announce the shopping season. They arranged a European-style balloon and band festival parade. This illustration shows the first notice that Macy’s published announcing this first parade! How things have changed now in 2009!

The economy has been rough on everyone, so how do we decide whom to tip in holiday gifting of service providers? (1) Identify people who provided essential services to you such as child care providers. (2) Consider non-cash gifts such as baked goods. (3) Pool resources among others who also use those services. (4) If unable to tip at all, consider a heart-felt note of appreciation. It IS still the thought that counts.
