Fishing Tournament

Get your fishing pole and come to the Horizon! The Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo continues through the end of October. If you want to participate or just watch the fun, see details at www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/play/Fishing_Rodeo.html. Catches can come from a pier, surf, inlet, or deep sea fishing experience. Cash prizes, too. Fishing licenses are available at the piers and marinas.

Sports Groups Coming to Myrtle Beach

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) plans a 4-day event of games in 2010 during the Memorial Day weekend, drawing 3 to 4 thousand athletes up to 18 years old and as many as 12 thousand spectators. Also, the USA Triathlon Championship will be held here in August, and Judo officials announced Myrtle Beach as the site of their November championships for adult athletes, a precursor to selection for the USA Olympic team.

H5N1 or H1N1? It's Flu Season

Preparations begin early this year to minimize the spread of flu. Expectations warn of a higher than usual wave this winter of upper respiratory infections across the nation, for several months at least. Flu outbreaks, including swine flu, have prompted officials for the state departments of health to launch aggressive campaigns to recognize and prevent flu. Tips include practicing good hygiene and staying home if sick. Let’s all stay healthy this year!

Irish-Italian Festival in N Myrtle Beach

Good, Ol' Fashioned Founders' Day Celebration

Going south from Wilmington on Highway 17 on Saturday, September 12th? Stop in at the town of Leland. Calling itself the “gateway to Brunswick County,” this wonderful community celebrates its 20th year in a Founders’ Day festivity. Performances by the US Marine Corps 2d Division Band from Camp Lejeune, The Celebration Choir, and The Brunswick Concert Band are included with kids’ activities, food, and fun – 10 AM to 3:30 PM, free admission.
