Making Sugar at Freewoods' Farm

Step back in time while visiting our area! We are immersed in centuries old: artifacts and relics found in museums, colonial architecture restored for viewing, and this wonderful farm in the Burgess community. Freewoods’ Farm grows and processes crops using ancestral tools and techniques. See mules Pete and Jake take turns grinding sugar cane into pulp, then pressed to squeeze out the juice that is used to make syrup.

Extreme Non-Perishable Food Drive

Towers on the Grove asks that you donate any non-perishable food items between now and January 15th in the Horry County Extreme Food Drive. The goal is to amass 100 tons. We will deliver it for you to the main site where the organizer, the Horry County United Way, will organize it for distribution. A Portrait of Southern Writers

The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum continues its exhibit called “Faces and Stories: A Portrait of Southern Writers.” The museum is open for viewing from 10 AM to 4 PM. Literary and art lovers alike will enjoy this show of black and white photos memories of famous Southern writers. SC Organ Donor at Tournament of Roses Parade

South Carolina has a new Organ and Tissue Registry. Ronald Snipes of Horry County had just signed up with this registry through the DMV when he renewed his driver’s license. Shortly afterward, he died from an unexpected aneurysm, but his organs will live on in others whose lives were spared through his generous gift. Mr. Snipes will be one of 76 donors honored at the Tournament of Roses parade this year. For details www.lifesharers.org.
