One clue that autumn is here is the Irish/Italian Festival. This year the event occurred on September 26th. With a large section devoted to children’s amusements, the wearing of the green also took center stage a time or two. The festivities had plenty of music for everyone all, headlined by The Dublin City Ramblers, Ireland’s leading ballad and folk group (8 gold albums). plus The Fat Jack Band, the Wacker Barrel, and The Necessary Band

The waters around the Grand Strand contain many interesting sights for boaters, scuba and snorkelers, and kayakers. Search for playful dolphins who follow you in their watery environment, pelicans as they glide overhead, bald eagles, and sometimes even alligators. Take a sunset cruise on a sailboat if you prefer to stay above the water’s surface. Not only relaxing, your sailing adventure will stir up your adrenaline, too!

On September 12th and 13th, both visitors and locals arrived just across the state border into North Carolina to pay tribute to the beginning of autumn’s festivals. The Little River community held its celebration at the Lowes Grocery Shopping Plaza (between Highway 17 and 179), with the beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday and ending at 7:00 PM on Sunday. Look for other Oktoberfests around the Grand Strand over the next several weeks.
