Welcome!

What a fabulous time of year! Autumn, when leaves change to many colors and patterns and the marsh grasses and ornamental fountain grasses adorn the landscape with their flowing tresses of pinks, purples, oranges, and mauves. The light changes, too, from intensely vibrant glows of summer to more subdued liquid metallic's, with ocean waves reminding us of blue/gray rolls of silk fabric being unfurled.

If you can take your eyes away from the dramatic changes in the coastal landscape long enough to participate in our activities, certainly we have no shortage of things to do. Of course, golf in autumn is one of the key reasons why people come to the Grand Strand in the fall, and our golf department has arranged some exciting packages to tempt golfers of any caliber to take some time off of work and make a week's golf outing a "must."

At the end of the month, the time-honored Endless Summer Festival is tuned and ready to entertain with its line-up of free concerts (see the article below) and colorful activities.

Thanksgiving this year promises to be an especially wonderful event as people feel at least a little less stressed from economic pressures. Towers is offering some wonderful ways to relax at the beach during the holidays, even saving some money in a get-away mini-vacation, so if you have that idea on your mind at all, give us a call.

To all who visited us this year, we want to thank you again for choosing Towers on the Grove, and we hope that we can see you again soon!

Your friends, the Staff at Towers on the Grove!

Golfing Along the Grand Strand

People choose to golf here on the Carolina coast because of our challenging and enjoyable premier courses and our fairly even and predictable climate, allowing for year-round enjoyment.

So, it is no wonder that many, many golf groups are pulling into our parking lots, checking into their resort condos, and then climbing right back into their vehicles for their appointed tee times. Time is a-wasting when you are not on the golf course, and these avid sports enthusiasts appear not to want a second to pass without something golf-related in it.

Of course, when a player has www.MyrtleBeachGolf.net and our expert golf agents to help find exactly the right combination of courses, locations, and challenges, there is not much more to do that get out there, drive the ball down the fairway, and enjoy the game! Life is good (or did someone already think of that line?)!

Thinking of your golf swing more than your next project at work? Make a call to 1.800.682.5699 to book a tee time to relieve some pressure! Here are some exciting course packages to consider:
  • Southern Swing, a brand new special starting 1/21/2010 - 3-round package featuring Founders Club at Pawley's, Prestwick, and The International Club. Great rates, great deal, great courses. Contact one of our golf agents for details.

  • Terrific Tuesday Golf Package - Play your choice of either Myrtlewood's Palmetto and Pinehills courses or River Hills, then add 3 more rounds on your choice of Farmstead, Meadowlands, or Arcadian Shores (one of these will be a free round to be played on Tuesday). This package is valid for arrival on a Sunday or Monday, stay 3 nights or more and receive a 4th night with breakfast for free. You also receive a gift certificate valued at $20 on a purchase of $40 or more in any of the "pro" shops (note: excludes golf balls and equipment).

  • SUPER Terrific Tuesday Golf Package - Play 3 rounds on Grande Dunes, Tidewater, and Pine Lakes and receive a free 4th round on a Tuesday at your choice of any of the other six Burroughs and Chapin courses: Arcadian Shores, Farmstead, Meadowlands, River Hills or Myrtlewood's Palmetto, and Pinehills courses. This package is valid for arrival on a Sunday or Monday, stay 3 nights or more and receive a 4th night with breakfast for free. You also receive a gift certificate valued at $20 on a purchase of $40 or more in any of the "pro" shops (note: excludes golf balls and equipment).

The Endless Summer Festival in North Myrtle Beach

Though the calendar shows that summer has truly ended, we can continue the "summertime" feel with bright beach music, amusements, activities, and cherished traditions. Here, especially in North Myrtle Beach, that means The Endless Summer Festival, held on Main Street with free concerts, a classic car show, arts-and-crafts, lots of food opportunities, and a children's play area with inflatables and carnival rides. This year the date occurs on October 31st and the place is, of course, the "Horseshoe" in North Myrtle Beach. This newsletter will arrive to you just prior to the event, so we hope to see you there for the fun and music!

Arranged by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and sponsored principally by Towers on the Grove and our sister properties in North Myrtle Beach, this festival brings out many devotées of beach music, plus anyone who loves good dance music. Bands included the headline group The Fantastic Shakers, plus SeaCruz, and The Catalinas. Hit songs among these three groups include "Shaking the Shack," "Summertime's Calling Me," "Myrtle Beach Days," and "Ain't No Big Thing."

This time of year holds a buoyant exuberance with its crisp air, colorful foliage, and long list of things to enjoy: fall harvest events, hayrides, roadside produce stands, the school football games, and much more, so join us this autumn, won't you!

Happy "summer," everyone, as we cruise into the holiday season of Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.

We stayed at the Towers on the Grove. It was fantastic. The housekeeping service was excellent!!! My girlfriends and I had a birthday weekend there. We enjoyed the waterfront 3bdrm with our own balconies. Everything was in a short distance from the hotel. The staff was so friendly. We are planning another trip soon, maybe the weekend of Nov 22nd. See you soon.

I was very impressed with Towers on the Grove. I would go so far as to say that our experience at Towers was the best out of all of our oceanfront experiences ever. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that our experience exceeded my expectations. While your website made many promises, I did expect to be let down in some aspect of our visit. However, the opposite is true...Towers delivered on all promises and exceeded my expectations. I've never been able to tell my friends that I experienced a perfect vacation until now. Thank you for the most relaxing week I have ever had on vacation.

You guys did a great job to make a family vacation EASY! Help me make time slow down when we are there, it was one of the best family stays we had. The hotel made easy to just enjoy life, not have to worry about the room. Thank you VERY much

My family and I visited Towers on the Grove from July 21st to July 25th, and the stay was wonderful! It was my son's first time at the beach, and with him being 6 years old I wanted to get a room up high, so I requested the 5th floor or above and when I got there to check in - I was registered in a room on the 20th floor! The room was clean, and there were lots of room. The view was excellent, and all the staff members that I encountered were very professional and friendly. I was very impressed with the hotel, and I hope to stay there next year when we make our next family trip to the North Myrtle Beach area.

Fun Facts

  • Sound waves can travel around corners in air and through water at about 1 mile per second.

  • As an ocean wave passes over a certain spot in the sea, the water at the surface rises, then falls when the wave has passed. The wave energy moves forward, but the water itself stays where it is, bobbing up and down with the waves. Think of it like a field of grain rippling in the wind. The wind moves the grain back and forth, but the grain stays right where it is.

  • The energy in ocean waves may go down as deep as 1000 feet below the surface of the water.

  • Waves in the open seas are often 50 feet high, with the largest known wave ever seen by man recorded at 112 feet high!

  • Did you know that when we gaze into the night's sky and see stars, we see the past ? Those same stars actually existed long before now. Their vast distance from us and from one star to the next is measured in light-years (that is, the distance that light travels in one year's time - about six trillion miles). So, when we look at any given star measuring, for example, 10 light-years away, we actually see the star as it was 10 years ago, now. Most stars are much farther than that so that some that we think we see are not even there in reality.

    Mind-boggling, isn't it.

  • We see the ocean as blue in color because this is the color our eyes see. However, the ocean can appear to be many other colors, depending upon particles in the water, the depth of the water, and the amount of skylight. A green ocean may appear so because of an abundance of plant life or sediment. A brown ocean may appear that way after a storm because of stirred up sediment and sand.

  • When we see perfect, predictable waves, the storm that caused them is far away, and the swells have had time to organize over thousands of miles. However, waves that are sloppy and disorganized come from a nearby storm system.

  • Of all the water in the world, only 2% is fresh water.

  • The biggest living thing in the world is a fungus.

  • Dolphins can swim at up to 37 miles per hour and eat about 1/3 of their body weight each day.

  • Mosquitoes have 47 teeth, and most snakes have over 200 teeth.

  • Butterflies and houseflies taste with their feet.

  • The white part of your fingernail is called the lunula (looks like a half-moon).

  • Our ears never stop growing, no matter how old we are.
