Volume 2, Issue 5                              May 2009

Welcome!

With nearly four weeks until the official beginning of summer, our temperatures are warm, balmy, and inviting. Beach-lovers are gradually making their way here for late spring breaks, early summer vacations, and everything in between. And, YES, we are ready for summer! Our brand new
Towers on the Grove offers full use of its water amenities, with beautiful accommodations, spectacular features, and breath-taking views, with even more to come!

One of many enjoyable aspects of working at Towers is seeing people's faces when they walk out of the elevator into our 3rd floor lobby. Some express amazement at how beautiful the lobby is and express anticipation in seeing their condominium units and the entire property. Others delay the lobby visit to walk around the property first to see the amenities and the ocean. Their first "wow" is often reserved for the condominium units, though!

You might well wonder if any bargains remain now that the beach weather is here. Indeed there are! We invite anyone wanting to come to the beach, whether or not on a budget, to spend the summer here! Even now with the summer just around the corner, you can still find amazing discounts at our sunny, relaxing oceanfront property!

In fact, when you add up the total cost of a vacation, you'll find that even the cost of transportation can work on your side. On average, air transportation costs to the Myrtle Beach International Airport are lower than those at surrounding airports, especially if you can fly on some of the new paths such as Spirit Air's new Chicago/Myrtle Beach route. If coming by car, you will find that, compared with last summer when gasoline hovered around $4/gallon, this year's average gas price is still about half the amount of last year.

So, check out our list of activities to see what matches your interests and summer vacation plans. Then, consider booking a stay here at Towers during that time. You will have the time of your life here at the beach, staying at Towers on the Grove!

The Staff of Towers on the Grove!

2009 Mayfest in North Myrtle Beach

One of the exciting festivals that always jump-starts summer around here is Mayfest on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, held this year on May 9th, another sunny, beautiful day at the beach. Our town's main hub turned itself into party-central with a tent marketplace full of fun and food, a children's play area complete with clowns and even a camel, and plenty of live music at center stage for everyone to enjoy.

With free attendance to the event, everyone appeared to have a great time from start to finish. People arrived early to stroll among the crafts (perhaps looking for a last-minute Mother's Day gift) and a display of classic cars until midday when the live music started with bands such as "Coco Loco Party Band," "The Executives and Chairman of the Board," "Mother's Finest" and "The Legends of Surf Music" featuring Al Jardine and David Marks, both original members of "The Beach Boys." The bands played on until nearly sundown, and even after the conclusion, people lingered on, trying to draw out every bit of pleasure they could.

Welcome to Brad Staggs!

Towers on the Grove welcomes Brad Staggs to the team as our Front Desk Manager. He brings sharp managerial skills, aptitude in communication with both staff and guests, proficiency in juggling multiple assignments at the same time, and strong leadership talents.

Though Brad is a new comer to Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts, he is a seasoned veteran in the hospitality industry with over seven years of experience, plus a university degree from Arkansas Technical University in the field of hospitality administration. He truly loves his work and looks forward to the busy summer season here at Towers.

Originally from Arkansas, he has lived in the Myrtle Beach area for a year and thoroughly loves life at the beach. Off duty, Brad enjoys taking his dog Padme out for long romps, playing tennis, or doing almost anything out of doors. With no shortage of interests (ask him about anything in sports, movies, and music), Brad will have not trouble at all interacting with guests from all locales and cultures.

"So far, the thing that I like the most about working at the Towers," said Brad, "is the people that I work with. Everyone has been so great in welcoming me to the Seaside Properties team, and I really feel like part of a big family!" Well, we are very glad to have him here, and we look forward to working with him, as well as assisting him, as he settles into his new position. Welcome, Brad!

Relay for Life Activities

Since earlier in the year when our company began a fund-raising effort on behalf of The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, the total amount has grown to over $9,000. Here is a review of activities on which all of our hard-working volunteers have spent time and considerable effort over the past weeks:

  • April 24th Relay for Life held at The Ripken Experience in downtown Myrtle Beach Including our volunteers for Towers, teams converged from companies all across the metropolitan region to participate in the 2009 Relay event. From 7 pm on the 24th to the following day at 7 am, each team sent a representative to the sports field in non-stop, tag-team format. Additional to walking in the Relay, the event included contests, vendors, and great fun with added opportunities to make new friends.

We are proud to announce that our company's own Dennis Chestnut, Director of Engineering, brought home the honor of Ms. Relay of Myrtle Beach. In a delightful parody of festival pageants, this award went to the male Relay volunteer who brought his most winning smile and most beautiful party costume - that is Dennis in pink!

  • The First Annual "Swing Fore the Cure" Golf Tournament, to be held on Saturday, August 1st at Myrtle Beach National's Kings North Golf Course This tournament will include not only an enjoyable round of golf at one of the premier courses in the area, Kings North, but also many different contests! The 9 am "shotgun" starts things off, followed by the awards luncheon at midday when prizes will be presented for everything from top placement in the tournament to "closest to the pin," "longest drives", and so much more.

We encourage everyone to visit the tournament's own website at www.MBSRAnnualGolfTournament.com for information and entry registration. The entry fee is $75/individual, with group fee set at $260/foursome team. The entry price includes tournament beverages, lunch, and fun all included. Hole sponsorships are $100 each. An added feature is a "bonus package" of entry tickets for prizes (2 mulligans plus 5 raffle tickets) at $20/individual and $80/foursome. We hope to see you out there on the course!

  • A Silent Auction as part of the First Annual "Swing Fore the Cure" Golf Tournament

During the summer until the golf tournament in August, our company is conducting a silent auction to raise money as part of Relay for Life. The following companies have donated fabulous prizes which will be featured on the website for the golf tournament. Then, during the awards luncheon for the tournament, winning bidders for the silent auction will be announced.

We would like to thank each of these companies for their generous and important donations toward the goals of the silent auction, with all proceeds raised to go to The American Cancer Society:
    • T-Bonz
    • Family Kingdom
    • Ripley's Aquarium
    • Tanger Outlets
    • Tri-County Mechanical Inc.
    • Enchanted Sailing Charters
    • Wal-Mart
    • SeaBoard Signs
    • Target Media
    • Legends in Concert

We hope that you will do business with these worthwhile companies, too.

Featured Recipe - Apple Crisp

INGREDIENTS:

    • 4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
    • 3/4 cup, plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup, plus 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/3 cup butter (cut into 1" pieces)

DIRECTIONS:

    • Toss together: apples, 1 tablespoon flour and 1 tablespoon sugar in a large bowl.
    • Place mixture in a greased 9" x 9" pan.
    • In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.
    • Sprinkle evenly over the apple mixture.
    • Sift 1/2 cup sugar; sift 3/4 cup flour and combine the two.
    • Cut in the butter, one piece at a time, to create a crumbly mixture.
    • Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apple mixture.
    • Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.

Correction to the April recipe: We apologize for an omission in the recipe section of The April newsletter, a recipe for banana nut muffins. The ingredients section should have included the measurement of 2/3 cup of brown sugar. This ingredient is mentioned in the directions.

If you made this recipe and experienced a less than suitable taste, we are sorry for any inconvenience. For those yet to make the recipe, be sure to add 2/3 cup of brown sugar to the ingredients of the banana nut muffins.

A big THANK YOU to Jasmine at the front desk for being so helpful and accommodating. She was great!!!!! I'm sorry that I don't have her last name. We loved Towers on the Grove and would love to come back again!

We stayed at TOG the last week in March. The condo was nice, clean, and had a full kitchen and washing machine and dryer, which was much appreciated. The size of the unit was a little bit small for our liking but still comfortable. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The ocean view was beautiful. If it had been a little warmer and less windy, we would have had a better time.....we were disappointed that the weather wasn't the greatest, but of course, that's not your fault!!! Being from Buffalo, New York, [as] the saying goes, if you don't like the weather, wait a MINUTE because that's how often it changes in this area! If we decide to visit Myrtle Beach again, (in warmer weather) we would definitely stay at the Towers.

It was quiet and peaceful. We got lost and the front desk was so helpful and cordial. We had a king size room and the rooms amenities were fabulous. The decor and cleanliness of the room itself made our stay so enjoyable. I would highly recommend trying Towers on the Grove at least once to see for yourself.

We had such a wonderful stay at Towers on the Grove. The hotel itself was beautiful, and the amenities in the room were amazing. We were excited to see that the swimming facilities were all up and running. Everyone on staff was exceptionally friendly, from the front desk to housekeeping and grounds maintenance. We will certainly be recommending Towers on the Grove to friends and we can't wait for a return trip!

My wife and I were at the Towers of the Grove in March of this year. We were on the 16th floor in an ocean view room and we LOVED it. The view was spectacular. We could see the beach from the bedroom and the street from the living area. The furnishings in the room were great. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We wanted to see the 2 and 3 bedroom units for future family vacations, and the staff gave us keys so we could check them out. The location of the Towers suits our needs [because] we shag, so we were close to the clubs we like to go, too. The Windy Hill area is perfect for us. Thank you for giving us a great weekend.

Hope to see you at the beach, too!
